Polished Concrete (mechanical polish)

Polished concrete is an extremely durable and luxe finish which differs from other concrete finishes in that the concrete is ground down and polished to the desired finish (either matt, satin or full gloss finish).

Unlike a grind + seal, there is no topical coating over the top, instead the heavy-duty concrete polishers use different grit in their polishing to achieve the desired look and it is the concrete itself which shines.

As a general rule, concrete is not considered polished before 400 grit is achieved and is usually finished to either 800, 1500, or 3000 grit and the polishing process involves between 15 and 17+ separate steps.

If you are looking for polished concrete as opposed to a grind and seal or other concrete flooring finish, it is important that you do your homework and talk to one of our specialists, visit our showroom and decide which finish suits your project and your budget as the price per M2 varies quite a bit.

If you choose to go with polished concrete, it is important that this decision is made and discussed with your architect and/or builder and us at Urban Floors before you pour your slab so that you can select the concrete colour, stone colour, and exposure.

Ideally, your slab strength needs to be poured by a concreter with experience in pouring for a mechanical polish to a 32Mpa strength for a full gloss finish.

At Urban Floors we offer the full spectrum of concrete floor finishes and our specialist can discuss the benefits of each.
